- GOTHIK is a role-playing game loosely based TSR's D&D and WhiteWolf's
- Vampire: The Masquerade, combining elements of both. In GOTHIK, you find
- yourself choosing whether to become a Vampire, or a Hunter.
-
- When you start, you will get five chances by rolls of dice to get the best
- set of characteristics, like Strength, Intelligence, etc. 20 points is the
- maximum of each value. Try to get a good Strength and Charisma if you plan to
- be a Vamp. Go for Intelligence and Wisdom if you want to be a Hunter. But in
- either case, pray you get a good Constitution, for that determines how well
- you can take a hit. If one roll of dice produces not so great results, or if
- you feel lucky, try to roll again. Who knows, you may do better. But don't
- get greedy, because you only have five chances.
-
- Once inside the game, you have many options. Let's talk about the Hunters
- first.
-
- To defend yourself against vampires, you will need a ward of some kind.
- You can buy garlic, crosses and other holy symbols. You can get your cross
- blessed for extra help. To attack a vampire, you'll need a weapon. You can
- buy water balloons and water pistols, if holy water is your chosen ammo. For
- something with a little more kick, you can buy shotguns and crossbows, too.
- Rowanwood stakes make great ammo for crossbows. If you prefer to blast your
- vampire, the incindiary shells allow your shotgun to shoot a burst of flames,
- like a small flame-thrower. Unlike other games, you need to find out which
- stores buy and sell what.
-
- If you join the ranks of the Undead, however, you don't need weapons or
- defenses. You are immortal, but only if you are strong enough to last through
- a Hunter's attacks.
-
- In both cases, you attack your enemies, either by Wandering around town, or
- by Following a player. The second allows you to attack your fellow players.
- Those listed in White are Hunters, in Red are Vampires, and those in the Dark
- Grey are too weak to fight.
-
- To heal yourself, you must make your way to the Bloodbank, and pay $1
- times your level per Hit Point to heal. This brings me to levels.
-
- You improve as a Hunter/Vampire by seeking Experience Training. If you are
- a Vampire, your Master will train you. If you are a Hunter, you must join an
- ancient group of Hunters known as the Deuteronomy Guilde. There are 13 levels
- to make your way through to succeed at the game. It takes 2500 Experience
- points to advance to the next level. Once in training, you can spend time
- honing those skills which you think have the most importance.
-
- Finally, there are Other Places. This is a selection of IGMs, or In Game
- Modules (same as you may know from Seth Able's L.O.R.D.) The first of these
- that have been written is The Blue Moon Tavern. Here you can buy a very stiff
- drink or two, as well as join in conversation with your fellow players. If
- Lilith's drinks don't do much for you, go chat with Donovan... he's always
- experimenting with his liquors.
